Parts of western Canterbury were rocked by an earthquake of magnitude 4.1on the Richter scale this morning.
The 9.40am quake was centred 30km southeast of Arthurs Pass at a focal depth of 8km, GNS Science said.
It was likely to have been felt by residents near Arthurs Pass.
