KEY POINTS:
The Government is making a grant of $35,000 to help an agency co-ordinate initiatives against sexual violence.
Women's Affairs Minister Lianne Dalziel said the community agency National Network Ending Sexual Violence Together (NNEST) had played a pivotal role in focusing attention on the problem of sexual violence.
It would undertake a crucial co-ordinating role, she said.
Government agencies were meeting with NNEST and other agencies that dealt with sexual violence at a hui at Porirua Police College, north of Wellington, this weekend.
Those at the hui would discuss the recently announced government plan to establish a sexual violence taskforce.
Ms Dalziel said membership of the taskforce was still being finalised but she believed NNEST needed to be there as the largest national network of agencies working with adult victims and perpetrators of sexual violence.
