Powerco says it is making steady progress restoring power across its severely damaged network in South Taranaki and Wanganui.
Key parts of the network have been rebuilt after extreme winds last weekend, though some 350 customers still have no power. Most of them are in remote rural areas of Wanganui, Patea, Waverley and the Waitotara Valley where damage to the network was most severe.
A small number of customers in those areas will not have supply restored until later in the week.
Powerco Network Operations Manager Phil Marsh says lines across large valleys and rivers came down the storm. Trees that fell across roads had to be cleared before crews could access sections of the network that needed repairs.
