A 3.5 quake has struck near Wanaka this morning.
GeoNet's initial reports, suggested it was a strong 4.5 quake that struck seven kilometres deep, 50 kilometres to the north-west of the southern town just before midday.
However, it has since been downgraded.
The quake was situated in what looks to be a fairly isolated area in the middle of Mt Aspiring Park.
So far only one person has reported feeling the quake.
