Police found a large stash of stolen property in the back of a car stopped for a traffic offence on Monday night.
Inspector Dave Walker said police stopped a Mitsubishi vehicle being driven without headlights on Khyber Pass Rd, near the city centre.
The male driver at first gave police a false name but later confirmed his real identity. A search revealed there were numerous warrants for his arrest.
Police found an astonishing booty of stolen property in the car, Mr Walker said. "They found a large number of power tools and other personal property, including digital cameras, handbags, credit cards, iPods, CDs, DVDs, clothing, perfume, cellphones, jewellery, caps, shoes, toys, ghetto blaster, motorcycle helmets in the rear of vehicle," he said.
"The recovery of these 314 stolen items indicates that the offender may have been on a mini crime wave."
A 32-year-old man appeared in Manukau District Court yesterday on a variety of charges.
