KEY POINTS:
An eagle-eyed cyclist who noticed a broken window at a house where a man was loading property into the boot of a vehicle helped Hastings police recover $30,000 of stolen property yesterday.
The cyclist was riding down Pakowhai Road in Hastings when he saw the man loading items into the car boot and, feeling it was suspicious, rode back for a second look.
He saw a broken window at the house, and noted the vehicle's registration number as it drove off.
Senior Sergeant Stuart Fleming said police executed a search warrant and recovered all the property from the Pakowhai burglary, in addition to property from two other Hastings burglaries.
In total, property valued in excess of $30,000 was recovered.
Mr Fleming said without the help of the cyclist, it was unlikely the items would have been located and the offender arrested so quickly.
"The police are very grateful for the way in which he handled the situation he was faced with."
A Hastings man, aged 28, will appear in Hastings District Court today facing three burglary charges.
