Wellington, June 19 NZPA - About 30,000 homes on the North Shore lost power tonight after an explosion at a substation.
Power company Vector was working to restore power to a wide area after the blast at the Wairau Road substation.
"The explosion has caused a widespread outage affecting approximately 30,000 households on the North Shore," Vector spokeswoman Philippa White said.
She could not give any indication at that stage when power would be restored.
