More than three hundred people marched up Queen Street today to highlight the desperate plight of those under attack by ISIS militants in Kurdistan.
New Zealand Solidarity for Kurdistan march organiser Asrin Hussein said more than 300 people joined the peaceful rally to raise awareness in New Zealand about the recent attacks and bombings in Kurdistan, particularly in the mountains of Shengal.
Hussein said the fighting had forced thousands from their homes.
"We want to raise awareness of genocide with the aim of getting New Zealand to support us and to provide humanitarian relief," she said.
Some 2000 people from Kurdistan lived in New Zealand and were concerned with developments in their former homeland, she said.
