KEY POINTS:
A big leaky building payout for a Takapuna townhouse complex will cover most of the repair bill.
Matt Josephson, the lawyer who represented residents in the Byron Ave complex, said the payout was close to the cost of fixing the 14 places.
The claimants got a judgment for more than $2 million after one of the biggest leaky building cases to go to the High Court in Auckland.
"The repair work was costed at $2,086,632," Mr Josephson said.
"The judgment is for $2,058,000 plus costs and disbursements. No claim was made for painting which was due to be done anyway," he said.
Residents of the townhouses built in 1997 and 1998 had repairs done in 2003 but these have failed also.
"There was also a claim for the failed remedial works of $176,508, plus consequential losses being lost rental, storage and alternative accommodation.
"This claim of $33,000 was relatively small in the overall context."
