Police do not believe a missing woman last seen in Mount Maunganui is in any danger.

Claudia Corbo De Castro, 22, was expected in Culverden, north of Christchurch, at the end of last week to start a new job but did not arrive.

This afternoon a police spokeswoman said representatives of the Italian Embassy were among people the police were speaking to about the case.

While police did not believe she was in danger, they would continue making enquiries until they could confirm she was safe and well.

The last reported sighting of Castro, who is from Uruguay, was in Mount Maunganui on June 18.

Police believe she may be travelling by car.

She arrived in New Zealand in March and was due to spend 12 months in the country.

Police are asking her to contact police so they can confirm she is safe.

Anyone who has seen her or know of her whereabouts, is being urged to contact their local police station.
