Two companies have been fined a total of $22,000 for spilling 50 litres of oil into Lyttelton Harbour last year.
Dae Hyun Agriculture and Fisheries, the Korean owners of the fishing vessel Melilla 201, and the New Zealand company that chartered it, Transpacific Fishing, were convicted in the Christchurch District Court.
Judge Jeff Smith fined the owners $12,000 and the New Zealand company $10,000.
