21st birthday bash for Pointon Collection

The Pointon Collection of cars and costume in Masterton is celebrating its 21st birthday this weekend with a new exhibition showcasing New Zealand designers and labels.

"The Siltex to El Jay" display brings together vintage outfits from the 1940s to the 1970s, including wedding dresses by Colin Cole and Vinka Lucas.

The owner of Pointon Collection, Gaye Pointon, said it would be her most ambitious exhibition to date.

"I'm making a big effort to do something different," she said.

"I've never done a display like this before so it's taken a bit of work."

Even after so many years working with the collection, it was still an exciting challenge, Mrs Pointon said.

The display runs from October 25 until February 3.
