KEY POINTS:
A 21-year-old man was killed after the tractor he was driving collided with a car south of Christchurch this morning.
Police said the crash happened when a car collided with the tractor as the tractor was turning right from Ellesmere Junction Road into Days Road in Springston, near Lincoln, about 10.45am.
The tractor, which was towing hay rakes, overturned after the collision in what was a 100km/h speed limit area.
The man died at the scene. His name has yet to be released. The car driver was not injured.
Police said it was too early to determine what caused the crash but said speed was not suspected to be a factor.
The road was closed following the crash but was expected to be re-opened by 2pm today.
