The 2016 road toll has risen to 17 following the death of an elderly woman injured in a crash in Motueka.
The 89-year-old driver was involved in what police called a "minor" two-car collision at the intersection of King Edward and High Sts at 3.05pm on Thursday.
She was taken to Nelson Hospital and died yesterday.
Senior Sergeant Stu Koefoed said the case had been referred to the coroner and police were investigating whether the crash caused the woman's death or she died as a result of an existing medical condition.
