This year's death toll on Waikato roads has risen to twice the number at the same point last year with the death of a pedestrian yesterday.
Sharyn Sunman, 64, died in hospital after being hit by a car in Hamilton yesterday morning.
Her death is the eighth on Waikato roads in 2014 and road users are being urged to take into account the potential mistakes of others.
"At the end of the day you could be the best rider, driver or pedestrian out there but, and it's a big but, you don't know what the next guy is going to do," said district road policing manager Inspector Freda Grace.
"That other motorist could be on their cellphone, be driving arguing kids or be recovering from a party the night before and become distracted and it's only a thin strip of paint separating you and the person in the next lane."
