2000 cars grabbed after street races

More than 2000 cars were impounded last year for illegal street racing.

Police national headquarters figures show 2270 people were charged under the Land Transport (Street and Drag Racing) Amendment Bill in the year to June.

Bay of Plenty, with 319, had the highest number of people charged.
