Masterton police were yesterday sorting out the chain of events which led to a Wellington taxi driver claiming he was owed for a fare to Carterton early Sunday.
The man had hired the taxi in Courtney Place about 7.40am with instructions to be driven to a home in Carterton.
He became aggressive claiming the $200 fare was too much, but said he would pay when he arrived in Carterton..
During the drive the man allegedly told the taxi driver he had been "drinking a lot" and that he had "already been arrested in Oriental Bay."
Police were told when the taxi arrived at the Carterton property the man "did a runner, leaping over fences" but returned soon after.
