Athletics Carterton is expecting a strong-turn out for their "Run for Your Lives" road races to be held at Dalefield on Anzac Monday.
Child cancer research will be a major beneficiary of any profits from the event which could attract as many as 200 participants.
Club spokesman Ray Wallis said the actual number of entries would depend very much on the weather.
"If it's a fine day in Wellington and Manawatu then we have a much better chance of getting runners from there," he said.
"On a wet day many of them would probably stay at home."
Wallis said the course, which starts at the Dalefield Hall, is mainly flat and suitable for fast times.
"The not-so-fit shouldn't have any trouble making it to the finish," he said.
Entrants in the sections for the under-10yrs and under-12yrs age groups will cover a distance of 2km with the under-14yrs and under-17yrs age groups racing over 5m. The open section will be over 10km. Start time is 2.20pm.
There will also be two fun-run walks, the shorter of them over 5km and the longer over 10km.
Meanwhile, it was a case of three for the price of one when Athletics Carterton held an event on a hilly course at the top of Tea Creek Road on Saturday. There was a scratch race, a sealed handicap and a teams' race based on the handicap times returned by each of the competitors.
Fastest over the 4.5km distance was Michael Rowe-Penny with Cam Sinclair, who kept the winner honest over the first of the three laps, the runner-up.
Results, in order of actual time and handicap times were:Michael Rowe-Penny 17mins 53secs, 17mins 53secs; Cam Sinclair 19.14, 17.49; Michael O'Connor 20.55, 17.38; Craig Bird 21.49, 17.09; Zac Sinclair 22.17, 16.32; Ray Wallis 22.33, 15.33; Michael Scott 22.47, 16.17; Renee Braggins 23.35, 19.48; Jonathon Bird 28.10, 15.10;Maxine Bird 28.46, 15.46; Tina Braggins 28.54, 15.54; Norm Wilton 34.31, 14.31.

Athletics Carterton will hold cross-country races at Clareville Showgrounds this coming Saturday. They will probably take the form of a steeplechase event over 3km and an open handicap section will also be staged.
