KEY POINTS:
The 145 state housing properties the National Party had said were worth more than $1 million each were mainly blocks of flats and not individual houses, Housing Minister Chris Carter said yesterday.
National MP Phil Heatley had said the Government should sell those homes and buy more, cheaper homes.
Mr Carter said there were 2674 individual units on the 145 sites, "housing complexes like the Dixon St flats here in Wellington which have 119 individual units but it is only recorded as one property".
Mr Carter also said the tenants of three state houses Mr Heatley said had rateable valuations of $1.4 million to $2 million had been there for between seven and 39 years.
