One of the most influential figures in the popular culture of the late 20th and early 21st centuries is our New Zealander of the Year.
Dave Dobbyn was doubly honoured at the Music Awards in 1988 when he was chosen as best male vocalist and Loyal was selected as the best album of the year.
It included three of the catchiest and best known tunes of the past 30 years: the title track, Love You Like I Should and Slice of Heaven, the theme from the movie Footrot Flats.
Dobbyn's enduring influence was recognised this year when he was inducted into the New Zealand music hall of fame.
