The All Blacks are our New Zealanders of the Year in 1956 for beating the Springboks in a series for the first time.
It was a contest that had the county in thrall throughout the winter and the result came down to the fourth test at Eden Park which the All Blacks won 11-5.
"Saturday at Eden Park produced a great occasion," said the Herald.
"It was, perhaps, the end of an era in international rugby - the era of South African dominance. It was a proud day for New Zealand, victorious for the first time in a test rubber against a famous adversary."
