Ahead of the excitement of last night's $38 million Powerball draw, 1.85 million Lotto tickets were bought by hopeful punters.
When averaged out across New Zealand's population, it's the equivalent of 39 per cent of Kiwis getting one ticket each.
In comparison, the previous Saturday's $34 million Powerball jackpot saw 1.3m tickets sold.
July's $40 million Powerball Must Be Won draw attracted record sales, with more than 2.7m tickets entered into the draw.
But this Wednesday's $44 million Powerball jackpot is the largest prize ever on offer in New Zealand history, and it must be won - so sales are likely to soar.
