KEY POINTS:
Otago man Shane Cribb has been awarded almost $18,000 costs for his defence of a charge of dangerous driving causing injury, which was dismissed in June after a three-year legal battle.
Judge Stephen O'Driscoll said the initial police investigation of the incident was "less than satisfactory" and awarded Cribb $17,900.45 of the $25,000 costs he claimed.
Cribb, 20, battled to clear his name after his vehicle and another driven by a police officer collided.
