Housing New Zealand has sold 18 state houses on the West Coast over the past four years netting $2,852,600.
A Housing NZ spokesman said four were in Westport, two each in Reefton and Hokitika with the other 10 in Greymouth.
He said there was low demand for social housing on the West Coast and it did not make sense to retain properties it could not tenant.
The sale period was from July 2011 to February 2016.
The local sales were part of a nationwide sell-off by Housing NZ in which over 1700 state homes sold for a total of over $300 million.
