KEY POINTS:
A 17-year-old Hawke's Bay man died when the car he was driving rolled down a bank at Frasertown, north of Wairoa this morning.
Sergeant Aubrey Ormond of the Wairoa police said the car left the road sometime between midnight and 6.30am. The car travelled approximately 50 metres on the grass verge before rolling 15 metres down a steep bank.
Another man in the car was able to make his way to the road to summon help.
Mr Ormond said that man was being treated in Wairoa Hospital for moderate injuries and was expected to be transferred to Hastings Hospital for further treatment. The death was one of two in the Hawke's Bay overnight.
A 37-year-old man died on Pakowhai Rd, Hastings, at about 2am.
The victim's name is not being released until next of kin have been informed.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the man's car, a blue Nissan Primera stationwagon, registration DFD182.
