KEY POINTS:
A 17-year-old male was killed in a head-on collision near Napier last night, bringing the holiday road toll to three.
He was the sole occupant of a Nissan travelling on Taihape Road at 8.45pm when his car collided with a Nissan Safari coming in the opposite direction.
The Safari's 51-year-old driver along with his wife and four children were all taken to Hastings Hospital. A police serious crash unit is investigating.
The name of a motorcyclist killed after crashing into a lamp post in Halcombe in Manawatu late on Boxing Day is still to be released.
Edward Paul, 35, of Mangere was killed at 4.30am on Christmas Day when his car rolled after failing to take a corner on SH2 in Waikato.
Eric Kozanic, 80, died after a crash on SH1 at Warkworth, also on Christmas Day, however, it is suspected he died from a heart attack prior to the crash and the death is not yet being counted in the toll.
The holiday road toll began at 4pm on Christmas Eve and finishes at 6am on January 3.
