A 17-month-old girl is in Starship Hospital after being seriously injured at a Whangarei house yesterday.

Today she was said to be in a critical but stable condition.

Police this afternoon said they were investigating how the girl came to be hurt and were speaking to her family.

Police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said the girl was taken to Whangarei Hospital yesterday afternoon before being flown to Auckland's Starship Hospital.
