KEY POINTS:
A 16-year-old girl was raped in Porirua last night and police are seeking help from the public to find her attacker.
The girl was drinking with friends near the Cannons Creek shops, in Porirua East, about 11.30pm when she was approached by a man and taken through Cannons Creek park.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Saunders, of Waitangirua police, said she was taken to an area near changing rooms at the Castor Crescent end of the park, where she was raped and sexually violated by the man.
He is described as Polynesian, about 18 or 19, of muscular build and with short black curly hair. He was wearing a blue lavalava and a brown and blue shirt with horizontal stripes, and is possibly called Jaam or Jamie.
After the attack, he walked off along Castor Crescent. Police believe he is a Porirua resident.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Porirua police.
