KEY POINTS:
A 15-year-old boy is in hospital with serious leg injuries after being trapped in a harvesting machine south of Auckland today.
Keith Hall, team manager for the ambulance northern communications centre, said the boy was trapped for about two hours on a farm in Pukekawa, 24km southeast of Pukekohe, before ambulance staff were able to free him late this morning.
The boy was airlifted to Middlemore Hospital, where he has serious lower leg injuries.
Mr Hall said it was not clear how the boy came to be trapped.
