KEY POINTS:
Police have arrested about 15 people since the Wellington Rugby Sevens tournament began yesterday but are "reasonably pleased" with the way the fans have behaved.
Acting Inspector Jason Ross said the arrests had been for theft, disorderly behaviour, breaches of peace and breaches of the liquor ban.
Most people were warned and released without charge, although some would face prosecution, Mr Ross said.
About 40 people had also been evicted from the Westpac Stadium, where the tournament was taking place, with booze being the recurring theme.
"It's been a good-natured crowd, although the effects of alcohol were being seen by mid-evening," Mr Ross said.
"It's going to be another big day (today) so we're reminding people to pace themselves, drink plenty of water, have something to eat and to treat people with respect."
Stadium security staff were doing a good job of checking bags to make sure alcohol was not smuggled into the venue, he said.
One young man had learned the hard way, however, when he attempted to hide a bottle of bourbon in his pants, and then fell over and received a nasty cut from the broken glass.
