1400 homes without power in Auckland

More than a thousand Aucklanders are without power tonight.

Around 1400 homes are suffering outages in Sunnyvale after a feeder fault.

Emergency services have contacted Vector to advise them of the issue which happened at around 7:30pm.

A feeder fault has also cut power to around 180 homes in Kaukapakapa north of Helensville. Both areas are hoped to have electricity restored by around 10pm.

Meanwhile, lines are down in near Three Kings and Hillsborough though no homes are impacted in those areas.

Vector spokeswoman Sandy Hodge said those issues are thought to be caused by sparking lines - often the result of when lines which get hot throughout the day are hit by sudden rain.
