A 13-year-old boy who could barely see over the steering wheel of a car was stopped during a Canterbury police road traffic blitz at the weekend.
The teenager who had a 12-year-old friend as a passenger, was stopped at Waipara, 58km northeast of Christchurch, yesterday.
Police said the pair "just wanted to take the car for a drive".
The incident happened just 24 hours after a 14-year-old boy was stopped while driving his drunk mother and friend home in Auckland.
The mother told police she thought it was the safest option because the adults in the car were intoxicated.
Canterbury police also caught an English tourist driving at 150km/h, the Press reported.
When stopped yesterday afternoon, the tourist, who had been in New Zealand three weeks, said: "Well, what is the limit here then?"
