KEY POINTS:
Police believe a 12-year-old girl was responsible for using a BB gun to shoot at children playing in a Blenheim skate park on Tuesday, injuring one.
Blenheim constable Michelle Stagg said the girl had yet to be spoken to by police but was too young to be prosecuted and would be dealt with by Youth Aid.
The children were playing at the skatepark in Horton St on Tuesday afternoon when a car pulled up and one of four occupants got out and fired shots before driving off.
One child was hit in the back with enough force to draw blood, while a second pellet narrowly missed the head of a passerby, who reported the incident to police.
Shooting an airgun at members of the public was extremely dangerous and could lead to charges of discharge of a firearm or reckless discharge of a firearm causing injury, Miss Stagg said.
