$11m Beehive upgrade 'hidden' in Budget

There are accusations today the Government has hidden plans to spend at least $11 million on renovating the Beehive.

National's finance spokesman Bill English says costings for the project were tucked away in the Budget.

He says ministerial accommodation has been a hot issue in the past, with both Labour and the Alliance harshly critical of previous plans.

Mr English says both parties called for a tight rein on spending in the public sector before the election, but now they want to bring the decorators in through the back door.

He says taxpayers should be outraged.
