Health officials in Waikato have now been notified of 116 confirmed cases of measles.
The Waikato District Health Board's public health unit said of those only four patients were fully immunised.
Medical officer of health Dr Anita Bell said almost half of the cases came from household contact with another confirmed case and they were already placed in quarantine before they became unwell.
Approximately 80 per cent of cases are aged between 10 to 20 years, and of the others, 15 per cent are aged under 10 years and five per cent over the age of 30 years.
Nine patients have been hospitalised with measles, but they have all now recovered.
