Auckland Council could begin 1080 drops over the Hunua Ranges within the next two weeks.
Newstalk ZB understands the council's 1080 pest control programme could receive public health approval today or early next week.
But the date for the first drop is entirely weather-dependent.
The council needs two or three clear nights before it can conduct a non-toxic application to half the drop area.
The first toxic drop on that half will occur seven to ten days later, and the first drop on the other half will occur seven to ten days after that.
