KEY POINTS:
Police have closed off an area in Rotorua after a chemical tanker ruptured, spilling low-concentration calcium chloride.
The 1000-litre tanker was suspected to have been damaged as it negotiated speed bumps outside the Rotorua Aquatic Centre.
Police prevented people from leaving the centre as a precaution and keep them clear as emergency services worked on the clean up.
Direct contact with the chemical can be harmful.
