A 10-year-old girl died at her home in Manukau, south Auckland, early today after being pinned between a car and a house, police said.
Investigations were still under way but early witness accounts suggested the young girl had been standing between the house and the front of the car about 7.30am when the accident happened at an address on Boundary Rd, police spokeswoman Angeline Barlow said.
"It appears a family member started the Mitsubishi Galant and it lurched forward pinning the girl to the wall of the house.
"Unfortunately she suffered fatal internal injuries and tragically died at the scene."
Police would not release the name of the girl until all next of kin have been advised.
Her death was one of three in accidents involving vehicles in Auckland today.
A 36-year-old woman died after a crash in Port Waikato when she apparently failed to stop at a T intersection, police said.
It appeared the woman had failed to stop, gone through the intersection into the side wall of a local pub and then hit an embankment.
Auckland police said in a statement that the crash happened only 20m from the woman's house. No other vehicles were involved.
An in a third accident, a person died in a three-car crash on State Highway One near Pokeno just after 10am.
