A 10-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following an incident with a water tanker on a Canterbury property.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 1.42pm on a farm on Fernside Rd, North Canterbury.
Senior sergeant Vaughn Lapslie said the boy had been hit by the water tanker as it worked on the farm.
"I believe the water tanker was dampening down a race track and the boy sustained injuries and has been flown by helicopter to hospital."
A Christchurch Hospital spokeswoman said the little boy was in a critical condition and had been admitted to the intensive care unit.
