Photographer Karla Karaitiana says the benefit of living in town is that the city is on her doorstep.
"As my kids and I went for our daily walks I had my camera slung over my shoulder so I could document our neighbourhood in lockdown.
"As surreal as it was to see our city centre abandoned, what stood out the most was the eerie silence.
"No sounds of traffic, footsteps or distant chatter. No coffee cups clinking or shop tills ringing. It was as if time had stopped still.
"Taking photographs during times like this is so important. They are a reminder of what we all did, collectively, for the health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders.
