Kathiy Watson brings her experience to Regent on Broadway

A new era began at the Regent on Broadway when new theatre manager Kathiy Watson was welcomed.

Watson was welcomed with a mihi whakatau led by rangitāne kaumatua Wiremu Te Awe Awe at the theatre on Monday.

Watson spoke of her aspirations and dreams for the future, noting she too was excited about the part the Regent will play in helping continue to build the profile of the performing arts in the life of the city.

Her experience and connections within the industry will be the catalyst to ensuring new and exciting opportunities for the theatre, especially post-Covid-19.

Both mayor Grant Smith and Regent Theatre Trust Board chairman David Lea said they were excited at Watson's appointment to the role.

Acting manager David Walsh was thanked for the professional way he managed the theatre, especially during the challenges of Covid-19.

Watson's family supported her at the welcome attended by city councillors, members of the Regent Theatre Trust Board, Regent staff, Friends of the Regent and members of the public.
