Check out dinosaurs on Dino Day

Coming this Saturday, Te Manawa unleashes the dinosaurs for Dino Day. Bridge the 65 million-year gap between modern humans and the Cretaceous period with a raft of free activities.

Unleash your inner palaeontologist with our Dino Dig, heading out "into the field" to bring fossils into the light of day once more. Maybe you'll find a golden one and win a spot prize!

Our Weekend Discovery Time programme looks at fossils in the lab: use a variety of tools to excavate samples and see what ancient treasures they hold.

At the crafting table, harness the spring-loaded power of a clothes peg to craft a Pegosaurus Rex or a Tripegatops.

The peg can provide the power for a chompy dinosaur jaw or simply become the jaw itself.

There's much more to get hands-on with and throughout the day, puppeteer Anna Bailey, her hypsilophodon and the T. rex costumes will provide entertainment. All activities are free (entry fees to Dinosaur Encounter apply as normal).

Meanwhile, we're getting fully into Dinovember with a little help from our City Partner, Fly Palmy. Imagining that every night the exhibits of Dinosaur Encounter come to life and have adventures in the museum, we've set out to document their exploits.

There'll be a new photo posted on our Facebook page every day during November. So far the dinosaurs have been caught rock climbing, rafting in the frog pond, using the 3D printer and waiting for the train in Santa's Cave.
