Children love to cycle - they can go fast, race their friends and enjoy the freedom of being on a bike.
The Manawatu Mountain Bike club is celebrating its fifth anniversary by honouring the youngest members. The club will be holding their annual iBike 4 Kids - a cool event for cool kids.
Club numbers have surged in recent years due to more families taking up the activity. Many of these members started after attending the event, including up-and-coming rider Gareth Cannon. Cannon was lucky enough to win a bike at his first event and now competes all over the world.
Adam Francis, 13, has also shone this season. He has won every race he entered and claimed titles in the National Series, National Championships and Oceania Championships.
Club member Raewyn Knight said there were plenty of opportunities for children to develop riding skills in the Manawatu.
