All day parking on trial in city centre until next July

All day parking in the city centre is now available to some shoppers after the Palmerston North City Council started its "no limits" parking initiative.

A number of spaces will now be offering all day parking with no time limits.

Users must look for the '$P All Day' signs, and can park for as long as they wish provided they feed the meter appropriately.

The trial will run until July next year and mayor Grant Smith said the council was looking forward to hearing what the public had to say.

"We're really ... confident it's going to bring more people into the city centre with significant benefits for retailers and other businesses."

PNCC roading manager Graeme Tong said all day parks would be clearly marked with new signage and updated information at the meters.

"Payment can be made at the meter using coins, text message or credit card. There will be a choice of up to eight different payment options depending on how long you want to stay.

"You can also pay using the Frogparking mobile app which allows you to make payments from wherever you are in the city so you don't have to return to your car."
