CNN anchor Jake Tapper was quick off the mark with his advice and typed: "Break up with him at once".
And Twitter user @JonahNRO wrote: "Does he eat bananas sideways? How about pistachios? Does he take the shell off before chewing?"
While @mls1776 shared: "Norms are being destroyed every day".
Dictionary.com also added to the conversation and trolled Hayley's boyfriend hilariously.
"Break off: What one does to a @KITKAT," it wrote before adding, "Also break off: What one might do to a relationship with someone who does this" referencing the picture of the KitKat with a large bite taken out of it.
However, a couple of people came to Hayley's boyfriend's defence and suggested that his method of eating a KitKat whole didn't have to be a make or break situation.
Twitter user @JeakPaul wrote: "I know someone who does this. Reader, I married him. We don't talk about it. He eats his Kit Kats away from home."
And her husband @rfpaul offered: "Hey, I am eating them the way they are packaged. Speak to the manufacturer."
While @NorthLightz suggested: "At least he didn't use a knife and fork."
In the end, it seems Hayley was able to get passed her boyfriend's unconventional KitKat approach and shared that she had no plans to dump him over the incident
"Internet — I appreciate your feedback. But Kit Kat crime aside, @EvanWilt_ is a keeper," she wrote.
