Woman legally adopts 'ridiculous' fake name to use Facebook

A British woman has changed her name by deed poll to match the "ridiculous" fake name she used on Facebook after being locked out of her profile.

30-year-old London holistic therapist Jemma Rogers is now officially 'Jemmaroid von Laalaa', the Telegraph reports.

Ms von Laalaa is one of many Facebook users who used a pseudonym on the social media website in an attempt to avoid unwanted friendship requests.

However last month she was asked to provide identification to prove her account was genuine. At first Jemmaroid tried to Photoshop her bank cards with her fake name, but that ruse failed and her account was suspended.

Presenting her real ID and explaining her fake name to Facebook authorities fell on deaf ears. Desperate not to lose her profile, and the photos and messages that go with it, there was only one option left.

"I know I've been a completely moron, but Facebook are being ridiculous," she told the Telegraph. "They should be able to tell it's a genuine account but just under a fake name, I can't believe I am being punished like this."

In a cruel twist, von Laalaa remains locked out of her account. Despite sending in documents with her new name on them, she has so far only received automated responses from the website saying that they are "looking into" the problem.

"I can't believe I'm stuck with this stupid name and I still can't get into my Facebook. It's ludicrous and I am embarrassed to tell people what has happened."
