Woman breastfeeds while delivering speech in parliament

"You've got to do what you've got to do".

An Icelandic politician has been praised worldwide after delivering a parliamentary speech while breastfeeding.

Despite being unexpectedly called to respond to a bill, Unnur Bra Konradsdottir, continued to breastfeed her six-week-old daughter in front of fellow colleagues and television cameras - with not a care in the world.

"I either had to tear the baby girl off me and leave her crying with the MP sitting next to me or just take her with me, and I thought it would cause less disturbance to take her with me", Ms Konradsdottir said.

And Ms Konradsdottir was right. No one cared. "It is the most natural thing in the world. It's like any job, you've got to do what you've got to do", she told AFP.

Ms Konradsdottir, who has been a member of the country's parliament since 2009, appeared nonchalant during her speech. The debate, which focused on immigration issues, continued as normal after she finished speaking.

According to media outlets in Iceland, it was the first time a woman has breastfed while delivering a speech in parliament.
