Woman body-shamed over engagement photos

For most couples, making an engagement announcement on social media invokes a stream of congratulatory comments.

But for one pair who shared a picture on Instagram to declare their pending nuptials, they were hit with a barrage of hateful statements.

Mzznaki Tetteh, a nurse from Ghana, posted a photo of herself with her fiance, Kojo Amoah and caption the image "Yaaaaayyyyee".

But instead of well wishes, the image was shared all over Twitter, with Tetteh body-shamed over her size.

Comments such as: "RIP that mans spine [sic]," and "You can see the struggle in his face" were the types of reactions to Tetteh's engagement shot.

But the bride-to-be responded saying: "Still confident... Your rubbish comments ain't ruining my happiness," and shared another picture of herself. She also thanked those who had posted positive comments: "Thanks to all for the compliments and best wishes... am honored."

Since the backlash, Tetteh has gained thousands of followers.

Her fiance, Amoah, told GhanaWeb he was proud of his partner.

"To me, I have always been a fan of plus size women and I am so proud of my woman and I don't care about what anybody says out there.

"In every society there are people who will try to discourage you from things that you seek to do but I am not bothered at all. And I don't regret posting those pictures on Facebook."
