"Hello, Dane. Why aren't you asleep?"
"I was thinking about those caves. What are they called again?"
"The Ulfstane Caverns," replied Mum. "They're named after a village that used to be there, a long time ago."
"That's a weird name."
"I suppose it is," said Mum thoughtfully. "Maybe someone who lived there back then was named 'Ulf'. Or maybe it means 'wolf'. Words have changed over the centuries."
"Wolves?" Dane said nervously.
Mum laughed and got up from her seat at the computer. "There are no wolves in Britain now, but there were once. Now I'm going to make a cup of hot chocolate. Why don't you see what you can find out about British wolves on the Internet."
Dane said down to look for information on wolves, but he'd hardly begun to read the first article when the fax machine started to squeal.
"You're getting a fax!" he called to Mum as she came down the hall with two cups of hot chocolate.
"Really? Who's it from?"
Dane looked at the sheet of paper again. "That's strange," he said. "There's no sender's name or return address on it, just a fax number. And it's addressed to me.
