1. 2013 Stoneleigh Rapaura Series Pinot Gris
A part of Marlborough, called Rapaura by early Maori, became known by European settlers as Strugglers Flat because the infertility of the soil made farming difficult. It's great for grapes though. This is a pinot gris with oomph, and flavours of poached pear, apple strudel, quince and a touch of lanolin. A clever, interesting wine.
Price: $28
2. 2012 Jules Taylor OTQ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
OTQ stands for On The Quiet. This is made from specially selected premium grapes from a small parcel of land in the Spring Creek sub-region of Marlborough. Fermented and aged in old French oak barrels, it has a lovely fusion of
citrus peel, passionfruit, honeysuckle and peaches. A nutty aftertaste adds a layer of complexity to the wine that would go well with white fish, veal goat's cheese or creamy pasta.
Price: $30
